The Middle Level Education Program in the Division of Educational and Psychological Studies at Dillard University is designed to address the  developmental realities of young adolescents that will be students in middle schools. The Division of Educational and Psychological Studies has   developed a tri-fold method of preparing candidates to be effective teachers. This method aligns the principals of learning with culturally relevant pedagogy and powerful teaching, research and service/community outreach to produce effective teachers.  Additionally, candidates will be afforded opportunities to study and observe individual aspects of young adolescents development and then to integrate this knowledge into a usable whole by   working in authentic situations with individual students at the middle level who have these developmental characteristics in unique combinations.  Emphasis will be placed on the creation of candidates knowledge, skills, and disposition in middle level curriculum, instruction, assessment, student-teacher relationships, and programs emphasized in performance based assessment. The intended outcome of this program is produce effective teachers that have the   ability to create developmentally and culturally responsive programs and   practices for middle level students.
